Richard D. Harris

December 25, 1946 - February 15, 2022

Richard D. Harris of Channahon, IL, died Tuesday, February 15, 2022. Born on Christmas Day, 1946, Rich was the third of seven siblings. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd (“Red”) Harris, his mother, Lois Harris née Anderson, and two sisters, Patty McIntyre and Sandy Thweatt. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue, daughters Amy (Neil) and Lisa (Steve), son Jeff, and three grandchildren, Jorie, Eric & Hudson. He is also survived by four siblings: Judy Seput, Debbie Miller, Terry Harris (Mary) and Garry Harris (Kum), as well as many nieces & nephews, including John Kot. Rich was a 1965 graduate of Bremen High School in Midlothian, IL. After high school, Rich went to work for General Electric in Chicago where he met and married his wife, Sue. In 1972, Rich started work at Koontz Wagner Electric Company and in 1977, he, Sue, Amy & Jeff moved to South Bend, Indiana. Rich & Sue then welcomed Lisa in 1980. Rich was known and respected for his dedication to his work, colleagues & customers, and he quickly rose through the ranks while with Koontz Wagner. He traveled extensively during his time with them, and eventually moved the family to Temperance, MI in 1994. In 1996, Rich left Koontz Wagner after more than 25 years & went to work for Rockwell Automation. In 1997, the family moved to Channahon, IL where he and Sue have lived for 24 years. Rich retired from Rockwell Automation in 2015 after 19 years. An avid sports fan & competitor, Rich loved golfing, bowling, the Chicago Bears & the White Sox. Rich was known for his quick wit, his work ethic, his favorite drink (Captain Morgan & Diet) & his amazing ability to remember song lyrics. Rich also loved family vacations to Kentucky, Tennessee & St Maarten. The family will be holding a Celebration of Life ceremony for Rich later this year. Memorials and/or donations may be made in Rich’s honor to Good Shepherd Manor (www.goodshepherdmanor.org) in Momence, IL, where his son, Jeff, currently resides. Donations may also be made to Lightways Hospice Care in Joliet, IL (www.lightways.org).
