John Edwin Manning Born: June 15, 1933; in Bristol, IL Died: May 23, 2016; in Joliet, IL John Edwin Manning, of Channahon IL, formerly of Dwight, passed away at Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet IL after a long battle with CHF, Monday, May 23rd, 2016. Age 82 years. Survived by his daughter, Peggy Sue (Dennis) Esser of Deforest WI; son Timothy John (Janel) Manning of Minooka IL; and daughter, Dr. Kelly Ann (Paul) Manning-Smith of Channahon IL. Six grandchildren, Amanda Smith, Matt and Jessica (Smith) Lauterbach, Joseph and Carissa Smith, and Allyssa Smith; four great-granddaughters, Ella, Madison, Morgan and Cheyenne; sister, Theodora Jebens Oswego, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by his wife of 59 years, Sue Ellen (Jericho) Manning; parents, Roy and Theo (Bailey) Manning; brothers, Roy Manning and Ray Manning; sisters, Ruby Woods, Pearle Krantz, Lela Ziman, Helen Barrett, and Sarah Byrne. John was born in Bristol, IL on June 15th 1933. He graduated from Newton High School in 1951. John is remembered for his service in the Navy during the Korean War and his service in the Illinois State Police for 30 years. John was active in Dwight IL youth activities as a little league coach and Cub Scout leader. John farmed in the Dwight area for 40 years until he retired at the age of 70. He loved bird watching, singing along with old country music songs, and a good White Sox game! Like all farmers, he loved to spin a yarn in the coffee shop and talk about the weather, and regardless of the long work hours he kept, John always found time to travel with his family. Arrangements are Entrusted to The Maple Funeral Home & Crematory in Channahon.
