Dorothy A. Cook (nee Smith) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy A. Cook. She entered Eternal Rest on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home with quiet dignity. Born in Joliet, the daughter of the late Raymond and Anna Smith. Beloved Wife of 72 years to William A. Cook; Cherished Mother of Lynnette (Charles) Malone; Adored Grandmother of Scott (Melissa) Mattingly, Matthew (Christine Sikrisamouth) Malone and Rebecca Malone; and soon to be a Great Grandmother of one. Dear Sister of Leo (Carol) Smith, Vern (the late Dolores) Smith and Donald Smith. Also left to cherish her memory are numerous nieces, nephews her dearest cousin, Diane Eilers and many special friends. Preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert (the late Margaret) Smith. Dorothy was a lifetime resident of the Channahon Neighborhood. She will be fondly remembered as our first “First Lady” of Channahon and our more than helpful Village Clerk who went above and beyond to be of assistance to her Channahon Community. She was a proud homemaker who loved caring for her family. She enjoyed cooking, being outdoors and taking care of her beloved pets. A true animal lover at heart she even made sure to provide food for the creatures in the wild. Traveling during the summer months to spend time in Minnesota was the highlight of her year. The Cook Family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation for the kind gestures and wonderful friendship that the Ritoff Family and the McCarthy Family have shown to Dorothy and William over these many years. A chapter completed, a page turned, a life well lived, a rest well earned. Per Dorothy’s Wishes Cremation Rites Accorded. Interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to The Maple Funeral Home, Channahon. 815. 467-1234 or www.themaplefuneralhome.com
