Gordon Walter Steele It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved Father, Gordon W. Steele. My dear Father entered eternal rest on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at the age of 89 years after a courageous and valiant 4 year battle with anemia and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. Born the son of the late Walter H. and Leona P. Steele. Gordon called Sparta, WI his home for 18 years. He had many fond memories of working with his father on the family dairy farm, enjoying the traditions of his Norwegian heritage with his many relatives and his academic years with friends in Sparta. In 1952 Dad was recruited from the La Crosse, WI unemployment office by the Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Joliet and he made his way to Illinois. He began his career with Caterpillar Tractor Co. as a Laborer and through hard work and fortitude he rose to the position of Electrician and later retired as Power Plant Operator. In 1955 he met his beloved Patricia at Caterpillar. They married and settled in Channahon where he built a home for his bride and they started their family. He continued his career at Caterpillar until he retired in 1988 after 35 years of dedicated service and continued to reside in Channahon in the home he built with love, hard work and skill. It was important that he continue to learn and maintain a strong work ethic. Gordon was self taught and capable of building or repairing just about anything. This endeared him to many neighbors and friends that were the recipients of his generous help and kindness. Preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Patricia (nee Peters) and two daughters, Theresa Sluis and Christine A. More. Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, his daughter, Kathleen Lake; grandchildren, Crystal Jordan, Shannon Lake-Sigmon, Brandon More, Emily More and Lisa Hayducak; great grandchildren, Carly, Jeremiah and Abigail Jennings and Lucy and Lillian More; dear sister, Clarice Oswald; fond uncle of Dennis, Daryl, Pat and the late Mike. A community of friends also mourn his passing. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one the chain will link again. May you rest in peace. Funeral Service for Gordon W. Steele will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024 at 10:00 AM at The Maple Funeral Home located at 24300 S. Ford Rd, Channahon with Pastor Eun Bae Doh officiating. Interment Willard Grove Cemetery, Channahon.
